In the Evros Delta, I like to:

Two-day workshops aimed at joint actions to inform and raise public awareness about the protection of wetlands

In the context of the program "Eco-Conscious Minds to Stop Pollution in the Valuable Wetlands of Black Sea Basin - BioLearn", in which the Management Body of the Evros Delta and Samothraki Protected Areas participates, in order to raise public awareness about the litter in wetlands, but also to reduce them, two workshops were organized and held with the aim of exchanging information, experiences and knowledge regarding litter in related wetlands with the program, as well as ways to reach out to citizens on this issue through joint actions.

The first workshop was held under the responsibility of the Management Body on October 15 and 16, via video conference, due to the prevailing epidemiological situation and presentations were made on the current status of wetlands of interest in relation to litter, as well as ways to address this issue through information and education. In addition to the project partners, distinguished scientists, educators and experts from various fields related to the management and protection of the environment and litter, NGOs, environmental organizations and others participated.

The second workshop was organized by the Bulgarian partners (Green Balkans) and took place on 19 and 20 November, via video conference as well. Entitled "Interpretation of specific knowledge for the local communities in protected areas: BioLearn Project area experience”, this meeting was aimed at presenting sites included in the Ramsar Convention's list of protected areas as well as at approaches for the conservation of biodiversity and raising environmental awareness.

It should be mentioned here that during the project a common manual of best practices and 12 training packages will be created. They will aim at educating and raising awareness of different groups of people, protecting wetlands from the risk of pollution, through examples of best practices and of course through education.

We are reminding that Greece with the Evros Delta, Turkey with Lake Gala, Ukraine with the Black Sea and the Low Danube Rivers, Georgia with Kolkheti National Park and Bulgaria with Lake Pomorie participate in the program which is funded by the Black Sea Basin Operational Program.
